Does the C# work even when the G chord is functioning as the I chord of the major scale (Ionian), instead of the IV (Lydian)? Since the C# gives a Lydian connotation, right? My guess is that it depends a lot on the musical context. Anyways, very interesting lesson!

Good question! I mention in the article to the video lesson that I start from modal playing when discuss these scales. But there are situations that will works great with the lydian mode even though the maj7 chord is the 1 (ionian). I use to play to the 2-5-1 chord progression in major with the dorian to the 2nd, the altered to the 5th and the lydian mode to the 1st and it sounds great. That´s a good example that it´ll works. Thanks for watching and comment Paul.

Thanks for the tip! I will definitely try out those modes on the 2-5-1 progression.
