I really like your playing, it's very clean and tasteful! Amazing that it's only using two simple scales. Speaking of which, what would be other modes that could fit this chord progression?

Hi Joseph! Makes me glad you like my playing. Thanks for telling. To a progression like this when there are two maj7 chords it will be the lydian mode to try. You will get a jazzier sound with that and if your not used with the scale it takes a while to get into it. It´s a ionian scale with a raised 4th. II 1 - 2 - 3 - #4 - 5 - 6 - 7 II. Otherwise to vary the sound you can use chromatic passing tones and arpeggios. If you use the lydian mode to the Dmaj7 chord, the Amaj7 chord tones arpeggio will be very nice to use. There was some ideas to try.
