You will get a jazzier sound with that and if your not used with the scale it takes a while to get into it. It´s a ionian scale with a raised 4th. II 1 - 2 - 3 - #4 - 5 - 6 - 7 II. Otherwise to vary the sound you can use chromatic passing tones and arpeggios. If you use the lydian mode to the Dmaj7 chord, the Amaj7 chord tones arpeggio will be very nice to use.
